- "The thing is, even if you're unhappy, that doesn't give you a right to make everyone else feel the same way. You gotta lighten up!"
Rowan Linwood is an OC currently attending Akademi High School.
Rowan doesn't make the best decisions and isn't very wise. He has good intentions, but good intentions aren't enough for his life. Rowan believes that his mistakes have greater consequences because of his decisions, and blames himself when things go wrong. Even though he realizes he has problems, he hides it and lies to others saying that he's fine so that they don't worry. His siblings have convinced him to open up just a bit more, and Rowan is okay with some of the change they're trying to bring, but he still has his issues.
Rowan prefers to be alone, though he is usually seen around friends. He can often be found pranking them and has a great sense of humor. When he is not stressed out Rowan can be quite lighthearted and cheerful, but not the life of any party. He also has a rebellious side to him, and can be defiant to the rules. He likes to do the right thing and is open-minded and unprejudiced.
When alone he will clean his room and is surprisingly serious about keeping his belongings in order, usually to relieve stress. He has a wide collection of books at home and he loves to read. Rowan is said to have a bottomless pit for a stomach, and legend says that he could eat all day long, nonstop.
Rowan was what some would call a complete sweetheart, who was fond of the time he spent with his friends and family. He was always trying to cheer up those in need, whether it was with a hug or even a prank. He could be a bit defiant and rebellious when trying to do the right thing, disregarding official rules in favor of his own. His parents wanted a more obedient child, and thus focused more on his younger twin, Muir Linwood, than him. His sister wanted him to let go a little so that he wouldn't become worked up over trying to save people all the time. They all wanted him to spend more time with the family.
They were right; it was quite stressful. He was essentially living for others all the time, faking smiles and keeping his true emotions to himself. With all these secrets he ended up keeping others at a distance so that they wouldn't have to worry about them, and only seeming friendly on the outside. He would stay by others even when in truth he would rather spend his time alone, with his nose deep in a book.
Muir insisted that he stopped, as this was unhealthy behavior. Rowan said that he couldn't, since if he left people in the dark like that he wouldn't be able to forgive himself. Rowan had just met someone who needed help, Homura Matsuo, a friend from middle school. She was more than just another shy girl, she was incredibly sweet. She was one-of-a-kind and different, the needle in the haystack. He took her out for ice cream and walked her home, always making sure she was safe. He gave her someone to lean on, and she told him that his help was very much appreciated.
But his help couldn't really be called "help". Rowan only facilitated Homura's indecisive and insecure behavior, he didn't help her improve. They needed to change their ways, and even if they grew apart as they changed and became more independent of one another it would be for the best. Rowan realized this and decided to tell Homura just that, and of course, she didn't take it well no matter what way he put it.
She stopped talking to him, and left. Muir and Rowan's little sister Lindsay were there to comfort Rowan, telling him that they were young and he would have plenty of time to get over this small incident. Rowan tried to call Homura often, but eventually Muir and Lindsay were able to convince him that he was calling her too much and that he should give her more space. He stopped, and only called one more time a month later, asking if she wanted to go out for ice cream again. Homura agreed, and the relationship was fixed, somewhat.
High school was right around the corner, and then graduation and college and full adulthood. If they really wanted to become and be called adults, the two would have to become more independent of one another and be able to take care of themselves. They can only hope that along the way as they grow up they won't drift apart, as most relationships between the young never last.
Airi knows of Rowan as the buffoon who still plays tag in high school. Rowan knows of Airi as the sleepyhead in the library. Rowan once tried to play a trick on Airi while he thought she was sleeping, but as Rowan was spraying the whip cream in Airi's open hand she suddenly smacked him in the face. Rowan wonders if that girl just wants to watch the world burn.
Barakou thinks Rowan should be more law-abiding and less lighthearted. Rowan thinks that Barakou needs to stop being so wary of him so that he can finally get to trick the resident stick-in-the-mud with a hand buzzer. Barakou sometimes tries to stop Rowan's pranks herself and only occasionally fails.
Chikako and Rowan are best friends, a dangerous duo. They are equally mischievous and prefer to work together instead of against each other. Occasionally they will discuss serious topics, but for the most part they focus on keeping each other happy. When in class they usually pair up together. They know one another like the back of their hand and some may be envious of such a close friendship.
Erisa likes to cook and Rowan likes to eat, so of course these two would be a good pair. When Rowan visits the Cooking Club he may go to Erisa for food if he already can't get it from someone else. Erisa thinks that Rowan is funny and often gives him her leftovers even when he doesn't ask. Erisa would participate in his pranks, but she is too shy to do something so disobedient.
Fano usually rats Rowan out to a teacher when she catches him doing something, so Rowan avoids this upperclassman. Fano enjoys making him paranoid and tease him because of this. Whenever Rowan tries to read Fano's diary she promptly stomps on his foot.
Rowan had once tried to steal some snacks from Himari before, which almost gave him a fist to the jaw and a heart attack. Himari apologized for her reflexes and joked that he should be more careful next time. The two occasionally bump into each other at the Cooking Club, both of them trying to get as much free food as possible. Himari teases him because she is the more manly of the two.
Homura caught onto his true tight-lipped nature and wants to offer free hugs to Rowan, although on some days she can be too shy to do so. Even though he tends to lie, she forgives him for it but also reprimands him. Homura trusts him and they're quite close, so she'll run to him if she ever witnesses a murder. They enjoy talking about their favorite books together. Rowan loves to eat whatever Homura may cook.
Lindsay is always free for talking off her brother's ear. She loves to gather other people's attention and fishes for it often. She can sometimes invade his privacy and go into his room without permission, but not out of malice.
Rowan tries to get some emotion out of Minori, but Minori usually ignores him. Since she is apparently impervious to his silly jokes and awful puns, he decides to tickle her. It works, but she ends up telling the teacher when he does so that he'll stop.
Muir is Rowan's younger fraternal twin. Muir and Rowan used to stay by each other's sides when they were very little, but their parents wanted to make sure that these twins didn't form bonds so unbreakable that they'd never leave each other's sides. So, because their parents kept them a bit separated they act around each other like normal brothers, but they nonetheless share some sort of deep connection that only twins will know of. Muir tends to be the wiser and more mature of the two.
Rowan has let Rie put makeup on him before, and while Rie stated that he looked like a mess Rowan thought he was beautiful. They like to debate about their favorite drama and romance novels, and are usually told to quiet down in the library.
Rowan tends to piss of Rie, but she hasn't attacked him yet. Rowan somewhat notices how much he angers Rie so he usually backs off, but he can be easily tempted to mess with the girl.
